November is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, a time when we shine a light on the struggles faced by many in our community. It's a week dedicated to raising awareness, inspiring action, and making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. Did you know currently 3 in 5 college students face food insecurity at some point during their academic journey. Food insecurity is a challenge where students lack reliable access to an ample supply of affordable, nutritious food for good health. With your help, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of Bearkats who are striving to achieve personal and academic dreams. By providing access to nutritious food, we empower them to excel in their studies.
The Food Pantry at Sam Houston State University is our on-campus food pantry, here to support SHSU students facing food insecurity. The Food Pantry is more than a resource; it's a hub for educational workshops, support, and a steppingstone towards a brighter future for our students.
The Food Pantry thrives on your donations. To keep our shelves brimming with nutritious options, we depend on the kindness and generosity of the Bearkat community and beyond. Together, we can ensure every student can focus on their studies and not where their next meal will come from. At the Food Pantry students can pick up groceries, including fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, lean protein, and more. We stock our pantry through monetary and in-kind donations from alumni, student groups, and others. We rely solely on donations to ensure the shelves stay full all year long.
